IFF - Danisco France SAS

Christophe Fremaux is a Technical Fellow at IFF for Health & Bioscience Division. He first studied molecular biology, and got a Ph.D. in Molecular Microbiology in 1990 at the Institute of Oenology at Bordeaux where he investigated Oenococcus oeni. He then carried out different postdoctoral positions, one of which was on the engineering of lactic acid bacteria and bacterial antagonism in the Team of Pr. Todd Klaenhammer at NCSU (North Carolina State University, USA).

Christophe was hired by IFF in 1994 (Texel, at that time) as a scientist to develop the expertise of the R&D Department in molecular microbiology. Then, he additionally took the responsibility over the Team investigating bacteriophages in 1996, and was appointed Manager of the Group responsible for the selection of strains used to design dairy starter cultures in 2001. Among his main achievements during the 28 years spent in the company, with 4 other Musketeers (Philippe, Rodolphe, Dennis and Patrick), was the discovery of the role of CRISPR-Cas in bacterial immunity against invading DNA (2005-2007).

In his current position, Christophe has now a more global responsibility supporting a portfolio of projects for the development of starter cultures.
